Hi Gang, Does anyone know a procedure for adjusting a headlight motor limit switch on a 1985? I've searched the forum with no success. Bought the motor rebuilt from Dino's Corvette. Goes up and down once and on the next activation goes up about 3/4 inch and stops like it hit the bumper stop. At this point it will not manually rotate with the **** until you unhook the motor. Have reinstalled multiple times with the exact same result. It is not hitting anything as it rotates so I'm guessing the limit switch needs adjustment???? Any other ideas? Thanks.
I am having the same problem as Mike. I've installed (and reinstalled many times) a rebuilt headlight motor on my 85. It will cycle open but will only retract about 80%...when I lightly tap it, it will close, but then will not reopen unless I turn the manual **** multiple times. Any advice?
The spring at the bottom of the motor might be the problem. I have a buddy who has an '85 'Vette, and he thought he had it in right, but it was not.
He had the spring over the top edge of the plastic, (hard to explain and I didn't have my digital camera handy).
Basically, the spring was inserted wrong, and it's very easy to put it in wrong. The spring is supposed to center the motor back in between the leaf switch (points like switches) once the motor has finished running.
The whole motor shaft moves up or down, depending on the direction and the plastic part by the switches moves with it to break the contact.
When he put the spring in he put it so one (very top) coil was over the plastic edge it was supposed to go behind. This kept he motor from being able to move far enough in one direction to make the leaf switch break contact.
When you put the motor together before you put the top on, take a screwdriver and make sure the motor shaft moves far enough to push the switch open. The spring should push it back to the closed position when you relieve the pressure.
This solved his problem after we made sure it had new gears and all else seemed fine. Before this fix, it did not know it was down and kept trying to run.
Thanks for taking the time to respond...but, I did not go in to the motor. I bought a rebuilt one from Ecklers and replaced the broken one. In talking to tech support at Ecklers they advised that the mechanism must be binding somewhere, thus causing it to hang. So, I have very carefully installed (and reinstalled) to no avail. Jim
