Default Accel /Edelbrock base intake manifold

I have been planning ( forever) the mods on my ' 90 and what I have left if a mega ported plenum, mega ported SLP runners and 1.6 RRs.

Without doing the heads and the cam (48MM TB) will the stock intake manifold provide enough flow for the ported plenum and SLPs to feed the heads with the 1.6 RRs or will the stock intake manifold become the restricting section?

If I do heads in the future the manifold will have to come off anyway so if there is no real benefit to an Accel/Edelbrock intake manifold at this point I would leave it.

Any links I could get the flow #s from ??

If the SLP runners have larger port dia than the stock base you might benefit from the Accel base now, not sure. The stock runners seem to be the biggest restriction to high RPM flow.

The stock base will flow about 223cfm; stock runners flow about 203cfm.

This might be controversial, but I found the Accel piece to have much bigger ports/tracts than the Ed.
I had both at the same time(on the work bench) to compare.
The Ed was very close to stock from what I could see.
(I had the stock manifold sitting next to the other two)

I have also had both at the same time and the accel unit is a bit bigger,
I wouldnt go as far to say the edelbrock is very close to stock though!

By the way, did you notice both have the same casting # on bottom???

Anyhow, If you are going to replace either your runners or baseplate, I would suggest doing the baseplate first...

So if the stock heads flow @ 195cfm @ .5+ inch lift ( 1.6 RRs) then the stock base can provide enough flow (?)

Yes sir, that would be my take on it.

Now, if those SLP runners are siamesed your power band will likely change but that's another issue.

I went in the opposite direction, i.e. I kept the stock runners and siamesed the base about 2" in from the runner interface. The result was a much flatter power band with nice extension well into the 5k RPM range.

Same results here. 5k+ and I shaved .2 off my 1/8th ET.
My setup is different though. TPIS base and SLP runners (just cleaned up the castings). "home ported" plenum, and 52mm TB. I think the TB was probably overkill on a stock motor...but oh well..

I also did the 52mm TB as well as gutted MAF.

Yea it sure is nice being able to pull well close to 6k RPM...
