I have ran across a fellow in Elgin,IL that takes and machines throttle shafts "since most have wear and are loose at 80k or so" and installs sealed roller bearings at each end"doubt they will ever wear out" then fabricates the larger throttle blades and contours the TB to match. The price is $190.00 which in my opinion is a deal considering you get a repair and a flow upgrade. He is a tool and die maker and has told me some of the others that do this type of work idle at 1000rpm afterwords because of lack of precision.Mine has worked great! He is working on a website but his email adress is DKoldos@aol.com
I have some pics I can send to those that are interested.I am sure he does to.Just thought I would pass this along.
edited to add that he is going on vacation starting 12-19-01--1-4-02 incase you thought he did not respond to emails promptly
Re: A less expensive 52mm throttle body (johndezman)
John, I don't think the stock casting can go over 52mm, even if it could you probably wouldn't see any inproved flow without proting the intake since the openings on the front are 52mm. I'm buying a stock unit off a forum member and sending it in to have the 52mm conversion done, this way there will be no down time.
Re: A less expensive 52mm throttle body (johndezman)
No on the larger than 52mm on the stock casting. He is looking into billet Mono Blades of the 52,54,56,58.
The roller bearings"sealed aircraft" on mine are a sweet install.
Yes its $155.00.. i've talked to the guy...But after shipping costs for you to send it there and back i'm sure you could add another $15 bucks or so...
Re: A less expensive 52mm throttle body (mountainmotor)
what kind of "issues" do you run into, going larger than 52mm? all i'm interested in are physical stuff related only to the throttle body itself as it will attach to a super ram.
Re: A less expensive 52mm throttle body (johndezman)
I had this same thing done to my Stock TB, My machine guy also took an airfoil, bolted it to my TB and ported the airfoil along with the TB, it is seamless now, I dont know if it helped performance that much but he only charged me $35 for the airfoil since it was the first one he did. I believe I paid him $150 for the conversion.
Issue with me is, where do we get the throttle plates from???
if we have to make our own, that get a bit complicated....
boring is the easy part, a 2" hole saw on a drill press, then shine it up a bit...NO???
