These wheels are the OEM wheels made for the ZR-1 by A-Mold in Japan. These are precision made which are lighter than the aftermarket ZR-1 wheels. Less weight also helps to spool up quicker than a wheel that has more weight, it easier to turn cause it less weight to spin.
Lighter, and they allow more air to get to the brakes to cool them faster. Finally, personal preference, I like the way they look way more than saw blades.

Re: A-mold wheels? (Rob 91Z07)
Less unsprung weight in a strong wheel. I don't know about the heat thing, could be. I'm looking for 4 17X9.5's, but they are always expensive and you can get ripped off if you don't know the casting marks.
On the frontside of the wheel by the lip it is a stamped with the letters JWL also on the backside of the one of the spokes, it would be stamped the size of the wheel and the offset.
Those are track tires but I wouldn't use those on the street. I have the AFS A-molds. Just as good structurally as the OEM. Better actually as the material is less porous(more solid). They have about 1 lbs material more as a result. They are tested to a higher stress rating and were made from molds from the originals in the USA. Both wheels are cast. Other replica wheels are often made in china. Also, many of the other replica wheels are solid instead of hollowed out in the back between the lugs like the OEM and AFS wheels. This means they are heavier again and will not allow for most wheel spacers to be used. Got mine from E-bay for under $800. They were blems, but then again as my car is a daily driver and has 75,000 miles, the whole thing is a blem. Rechrome is $200 a wheel, which means if I have this done, it works out to a new set anyway. And the blems were a dot or a scratch that was 1/4 inch long and didn't penetrate the chrome. Got a few more blems now and I'm happy I didn't pay the extra $800 for nothing.
There is no such thing as an "AFS A mold". They weigh a ton more than a real Amold. A 17 x 9 1/2" Amold weighs in at ~ 19 1/2# and an 17 x 11" about 20 1/2#. Pick up one of the AFS wheels. This was a hot topic of discussion when the Forum first started a couple of years ago, and somewhere, we weighed a knock off, and I want to say that they were around 8# heavier each. It used to be in the archives, but with all the server issues over the life of The Forum, that genre of the archives is long gone.
As far a as the Weld 15" wheels, those little skinnies sure as heck should be lighter than any stock size, or even same size 17" cast wheel, Amold or not. The ones mentioned are drag racing wheels, and would literally bend like a pretztel if used on a road course. That's why they specifically tell you not to run them for autocross or road racing. There are some other three piece wheels that come in virtually any width in a 17" that are very reasonable, and as light as the Weld, but are suitable for roadcourse and street use. Hoerr Racing stocks them, and you can get any combination you want. Also, the benchmark for high quality, low cost road racing wheels are the Complete Custom Wheels. (CCW's, made in Fla.) Either are good alternatives to the Amold. The CCW, would take more abuse.
