I am running an older Vortech that I recently had rebuilt with straight cut gears ('silent' gears not available for this model). with the hood up, the noise from the blower is very shrill and you have to shout to be heard over it. Inside the car, you can listen to the radio if it is turned up a bit. You may want to check which model of supercharger is on the car; later models can be rebuilt with quiet gears.
He said the motor was built in 99... and it looked like it has been in there awhile.
You are correct in describing it as "shrill". Like a higher pitched screaming sound mixed with a kind of mechanical gear grinding noise.
If my aim was to go to the track, this car would be perfect, however it's my daily driver also.
I think my original thought is correct. It's too much horsepower. I need to find either an LT4 or a C5.
