Fabbing custom door panels from scratch
So help me decide which route to take. I'm gonna jump the bandwagon and say that my cheesy door panels are starting to grow on me. I was thinking about fabbing new ones up out of aluminum or making them out of fiberglass sheets, glue and upholstering them with a layer of vinyl (pleather) or quality cloth. My dad is friends with the owner of a local auto upholstery shop, but since this will be a custom job, he said the price might be much higher than I'd like to pay. On the other hand, we do have a lot of scrap sheet aluminum here that could be of use. We could just take measurements and could use a shop to break and shear the aluminum for us. This could be inexpensive since we will be providing the aluminum ourselves as well as doing the work ourselves without paying a guy to do it for us. What would you do?

I wouldn't make them out of something very flammable. The stock door covers aren't super heavy, I decided to just leave them. I didn't cut the bar out either, the door is so flimsy I like the safety of the bar staying.
