For those of you who live in North Texas.... My Florida tags expire on my car in two days and I will have to have a visual and sniffer test before being allowed to get Texas tags. (no inspections or smog tests in Florida) I'm certain my car will not pass, as is. Help from in the Dallas/Ft. Worth (Denton) area greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Chris
I live about 25 miles east of Dallas and have not had any problems with the visual. I have had with the sniffer though. Here in Texas the requirements change from county to county. You will have to get the car inspected in the county it is registered in.
My only advice would be to find a small (not a chain) shop and go for it. There is a local radio talk show car guy that touts the ability of a product called RXP to help in lowering emissions. A bottle costs about 7 bucks and you pour it into your gas tank. I have never used it for passing the sniffer but 7 bucks couldn't hurt. You can get it at O'Reilly's I think.
Your other option is the "Sell" the car to an out of state relative. Have them title it and send you the plate. Kind of a pain, but may be an easy out if you can't pass emissions.
Thanks for the suggestions...I was hoping to pay about $100 to a person at a vehicle inspection center to do enough tuning on my car to get it to pass.
Just a thought.

They tend to be kind of strict on these things. the best bet is to make friends with some of the locals, and then get it passed "legitimately".

I typically don't define "legitimately" on a public forum. I have spent a lot of time with the FAST tuning, and I have a program that get's me extremely close / passing (sometimes ever so slightly out on NOx due to the lean condition to achieve HCs), plus the cat convertor. The car runs like crap on the "inspection tune" (very close to 17:1 AFR), but I dump it in just prior to entering the dyno bay, and dump the "street" program back in before leaving the shop. If you don't have an aftermarket ECM, it may be more difficult.
Also, you must be aware that the fine for illegally passing an emission non-compliant car in TX is $25K for the operator, and permanent loss of inspection license for the operator. There is also a fine for the vehicle owner if they were attempting to subrogate the "system".
You need to find a shop to work with in your county and get the car to pass (or make it a true race car and don't run on the streets; though probably not an option).

Appreciate the post. I've been contemplating registering it in Kansas for no smog inspection reasons. I run a Gen-VII and can lean it out if needed. I hate being the new guy in town for these very reasons.
Thx
