Default Do you need shift Kit for 4L60e?

I just rebuild my transmission, and despite Hypertech programing, all new seals and pistons, rebuilt pump, 1/2 turn on pressure solenoid, my shifts are solid, but not tire chirping. I attribute a little of that to the 2000 stall speed. The 1-2 shift feels slightly clunky. But then again, I havent bashed the pedal yet.

My car is a 1996 Lt-1, hot cam, magnaflows catback, 2000 stall, hypertech II power tuning (their standard program) everything else is stock.

It seems that because the transmission is electornically controlled< i dont need a shift kit.
Should I go install the transgo hd2 kit anyway to get that tire chirping type shift?

No such thing as a stupid question, just stupid answers.

A friend has a 46 chevy pick-up with an Lt1 (slightly modded) and a 4L60E with a shift kit in it. On street tires it burns the tires on every 1-2 and 2-3 upshift, even under moderate acceleration. He is taking the shift kit out as he is concerned about loosing it on wet roads. Best I can do, hope it helps.

Thanks Ryan!

It seems that the shift kit will remove that light throttle bang shift I am experiencing....along with other slight drivability problems.

I just took the car out and stomped on it a few times. WOW!!!! It seems the shifts firm up considerably when I put my foot into it. I also noticed that when I get up to sayyyy 75mph and let my foot off the gas, the transmission stays in gear. It didn't do that before, it seemed that transmission free wheeled, then caught a gear......very uncomfortable. The 2-3 shift is very stout with no slippage all. . . no matter how much I stomp it. I raised the rev limiter to 6200. . . .and it bangs it right into third no problem. Rods next?

I also noticed that the torque converter lockup is far more pronounced, even though I didnt remove the little ball in the input shaft. I am pretty sure my old converter clutch was slipping.

I am extremely pleased. . . .except for that light throttle bang, and the temps got into the 220 range . Time for a cooler.
