Default Crazy Wheel Vibration

Well on "Betty's" Possibly last voyage for a few months(we'll see how the new adventure goes ) I was getting up to about 50-55 and the steering wheel started shaking like crazy ..The car still went straight but the vibration was crazy..I backed off to about 40 and it almost went away..Now.. I have purchased tires and wheels form a forum member a while back and those are on the car now..I did have them balanced..Should I take them back and have them checked?? Ya don't think it's a front end issue do ya I have no play in the bearings when you move the tire in and out,,But I have never had an alignment done yet,,Hell the car hasn't seen 300 miles in two years...Just need some input please

Had the same issue. Bushings and ball joints fix the problem.

Was the vibration in your hands or the seat of your pants. If hands, then it is a front wheel. If seat, then rear wheels. Note that a car seldom driven has a natural tendency for tires to seem out of round for awhile when first driven. It often goes away when the tire warms.

Do have the offender balanced -- have all checked if you can. Then record the positions and weights. If using stick-on weights, cover them with aluminum tape (not the usual "duct tape").

Road Force balance tires solves front end issues cheaper than
replacing ball joints and tie rods.

If the tires are used, it's possible that the belts have shifted causing the tire to become out of balance. I had this happen on my Tahoe once and it was HORRIBLE when you got it onto the highway. At city speeds it wasn't so bad, but on the highway it felt like were were going to shake the truck apart. Oh, and these tires had been used and I had had them balanced before I mounted them onto my truck - but later the belt must've shifted. If that's the case on your car then you need to replace the tire(s). Good luck! BTW - if you've got another set of mounted tires, you can determine whether it's a tire/wheel issue or a suspension issue just by swapping them over and going for a drive.
