Do new AC/Delco alternators exists anymore? It seems there are only remanufactured ones floating around. When were they new??
My third alternator since I've had my car crapped out tonight so I'm going to have to find a replacement. What should I use so I'm not making alternator replacement a semi-annual event?

I changed my AC Delco to a higher amperage PowerMaster from Ecklers and got left on the side of the road. Then I put in a remanufactured AC Delco and haven't had a single problem since (about a year and a half ago). Oh, and Ecklers was great about the return process.
hi,
iv got a motor city remand 1991 alternator that hasnt seen much use at all, and is only a 6 months old and has only been run about 10 times of short bursts of about 5 minutes and is now started to make a Buzzing sound!!
does this mean that it is stuffed ??
the sound is coming rite from the alternator.
thanks

I bought a new 105 amp alternator from Motor City Reman with a lifetime warranty for under $90. It works great.
No idea about the 94.
The Lifetime I got from Pep Boys years ago was not Delco it was new. They have held up OK (I'm on my 3rd in 10yrs). I can say I orginally got a rebuilt alt. the 1st replacement was new. They told me they don't lifetime warranty rebuilt alt's anymore.
I would never buy anything but a lifetime alternator for a Vette!
A weak battery will kill an alt. since it is NOT a battery charger and having it pull up a battery will keep it working at max and overheat it.
If the car sits a lot you might think about a battery tender.
Years ago an auto electric shop told me 4yrs was good for a GM alternator from the late 80's. They said high underhood temps and poor air flow from no engine driven fan really cooked them.
L98 car boost fan is controled by a switch, I put in a 200 degree switch, I think it helped.
I got the 140 amp unit. I was tired of my crappy CS130 and it's weak clones from local parts chains. This sucker is easily the best alternator I've ever had. Very robust, even under extreme load at idle. I've just recently had it rebuilt by a local guy since the pulley and bearings are finally wearing out a bit, but that's because the way I mounted it, puts too much strain on it. I'll need to adjust the angle a bit. But still not bad considering my bonehead move. I love that thing.
Makes you wonder why GM used Denso for AC pumps when they did the change over but never bothered to spec any of their alternators. I wish they would have. At any rate i have had pretty good luck with one of those 200amp ebay alternators. The only mod i had to do was slightly increase the pully size since my motor redlines at 6700. The RPM range our alternators are designed for is pretty narrow as these things go. My little 4 banger redlines at 8200 and still charges great at idle. Come to think about it, isn't the Lt1 alternator an easy swap for the L98? i know it's a better unit.
