I am working on carbing my 85. Went with a Torker II intake and a Edelbrock 600 carb. Looking for some help with the fuel issue. Any ideas on a fuel delivery system? Will a mechanical pump fit? Suggestions on elec fuel pump. What about the in-tank pump and vapor return? What a mess. Please help !!!!
I also had two lines going to the plenum. I'm assuming one was fuel in and the other was the fuel or vapor return? What do I do with the second line? Sorry for the dumb questions.
You need a bypass-style regulator. I'm running a Mallory 4307M regulator in mine, but I think there are better choices. The Mallory works great, but it's all AN fittings and it's a PITA to plumb. That return line isn't for vapor return, it's for excess fuel return. Start re-plumbing your fuel lines from the steel lines in the right fender well. There are only two lines there and they split later on for the two fuel rails. Start there and route the supply and return lines to your regulator, and then run one line to the carb.
Anyway, the in tank pump is just fine. You'll retain a 2 second prime function by keeping the stock pump, and that's handy for when the car's been setting a while. The pump will run when the engine is running from the oil pressure switch.
A mechanical fuel pump will not fit. I tried and failed, and ended up sticking with the in-tank stock pump.
i did this on my 85...went with an edelbrock performer manifold, edelbrock 1406 carb, edelbrock drop base air cleaner, the air filter that comes with this is three inches tall, too tall, ordered from summit a two inch tall 14 inch diameter air filter for my set up...remember hood clearance...
used a mallory by pass fuel regulator, cut the fuel lines in front of the manifold & flared nipples, not pretty but dependable.
used a one wire distributor, used the two wires that were hooked before...
if 700r4, i used a tci kit from summit #376600...
she is running good...
good luck
Aeromotive makes the regulator you need .You will have to adjust the fuel to 6 1/2 lbs and hook up the return fuel line and your ready to go.I just used streel braded lines and trans clampsand cut the fadctory steel lines. You are not in a 3rd world country like me, so you should be able to find ther right fittings,if you don't want to cut the factory lines.

You think you are in the third world.Try being this far from the USA.
Cleanest way if you have the $$ is to remove factory lines completely and run braided line from the fuel filter ( return line has coupling in same location) to the FPR mounted anywhere convenient. Then line to carb.
Thank you guys very very much for this help. Very much appreciated. Only one other dumb question on this subject (there will be more on other topics). I have been looking at FPR's and they all say 160 gph and so on. There are a few different gph's,,,,,does this matter and how so?
