hey guys I'm having problems on my 97 t/a ,I know its not a vette but it still has all the same parts. Car started running rough, felt like 7 cylinders, got it home and ran the scanner on it and got 4 codes.
171,174,300,400
171 and 174 says bank 1and 2 running lean
300 says it has a misfire
400 is my egr, which has been tunrning the ses light on and then a couple of days later it goes out.
I just replaced the opti about 4,000 miles ago.
I am wondering why it would run lean if its misfiring you would think it would be rich?
Before i tear into this, could this be a computer problem,a bad plug or do you guys think its the opticrap.
I don't have a lot of money to throw at it. Any help would be appreciated. thanks
has anyone experienced a catalyst misfire, fsm says when the mil is flashing that is what you have.could a bad opti cause this.
I'm going to check my plugs and see if there is a bad one.
what are the sp wires?
My fsm says the codes I have is a fuel system problem.
The car has minor mods, cold air intake, shorty headers and a cat back.
I didn't know that the o2's could be bad and not produce a code.
Fuel pump was replaced 2 yrs ago so I don't think its low pressure since I drove the car home 10 miles after the mil was flashing.
The computer is dumping a lot of fuel to compensate for the lean condition from the 171,174 codes, which sounds like the o2 sensor might be the problem, but which one.probably the one after the cat I would think, but I'm not an expert.
plug wires were new 4,000 miles ago along with the opti.
Trying to do some research before I dive into it,so I don't throw a bunch of money at it.I think I can ohm the o2 sensor to see if its good, anyone know what a good one ohm's out at?
I first thought it was a burned plug wire, they look good from the top of the engine,I will check from under the car.thanks
Headers have been known to cause EGR problems too. I can't give you all the specifics from the top of my head but it has to do with the lack of restrictions in the flow IIRC. Try doing some searches in the archives.
