I've reading some topics about the Hypertech chip on a stock engine, and it doesn't seem like a good investment.
However my engine is a bit modified with headers, K&N and AFPR, 2xCatco 2,5" catalytic converters and a 3" exhaust system, 160degrees thermostat. I have already ordered a Hypertech Stage II chip. Will it do anything good for me or should I send it back?
Send it back..with slight mods the hypertech actually slowed me down....
It is way too generic but handy if u change gear ratios or lower cooling temps..
i know of no Corvette that ran faster using Hypertech. I do know of 4 Corvettes that ran worse after installing the Hypertech. Your best bet is to
contact ChrisK at speed demon motorsports and let him set up ur program..
By no means will it slow you down. A lot of people who say it does don't do
any comparisons in comprable weather. IE, I could run a 13.2, but with the hypertech in completely different track conditions I couldn't get any traction and I can only run a 13.9.
That's what you'll see a lot of. I don't think it good for much anything other than lowering temps as you say, but it shouldn't hurt. I've yet to see anybody with dyno numbers to prove that it hurt them. However I've never seen anybody with dyno numbers to prove that it helped them either.
Re: Hypertech - to be or not to be (Nathan Plemons)
I'd go with a chip that you can get free new chips burned as you add mods. I read somewhere that there are a few guys out there that will "update" your chip based on new changes you made. If Hypertech does this, maybe its worth a try. The best bet would be to get an ECM in there from a 94+ so its programable. Does anyone know if you can plug a newer one right in or are the harnesses different?

Skip the hypertech and save your cash to buy your own software and make your own program customized to your vette... don't use the hyper tech, definitely NOT worth the $$$!!!

Of course it can slow you down!! If it's not tuned to your setup or does something such as add too much timing, it's not going to make the car run any better...

Since I have already bought the chip I guess I will have to try it and see for my self. Perhaps I can find some poor guy here in Sweden that I can sell it to :D
What about Ed Wright chip, I've seen alot of people here using it?
