That indeed is what I did.
However if you have the time and the inclination the instructions in hawkshil's post are great.

fuel filter
Done. Took me about 15min.
Took the fuse out
Turn the engine on, until it stopped
Unhooked the fuel line from the fender
Disconnected the fuel line from bottom and pull the filter up from engine side.
Put new filter on and went for a test drive.
