I Need Some Hellp. I Have A 1996 Collectors Edition. A While Back It Got Hot On Me While Idling. I Found That The Secondary Fan Is Not Coming On And When It Does It Blows The Main Fuse.
Any Help Would Be Appreciated. It Should Be A Simple Fix But I Dont Know Where To Begin Really
Was the independent power source fused or hard wired? Possible the fan is pulling too much current for its fused circuit but will run when directly wired.
Let me get back to basics. I assume the secondary fan comes on at a higher temp than the primary fan as in my 92. How hot is your temp getting? 238 seems the ring a bell for my 92 as to when the secondary fan comes on. But you say the fan blows a fuse when it does come on. I'd say the fan is drawing more current than normal which is why the fuse pops. You could swap the fans so that the secondary fan comes on first to see if it's the fan itself.
fan motors are really cheap, actually a brand new entire assembly is something like $100 for both fans and the fiberglass. if the fan works hard wired but blows fuses, do double check that you have the correct amprage of fuse in the blown location. if so something might be up with the fan motor, there really isn't much else i can think of besides a random short somewhere along the way.
