$300 or less Bilstein or Tokico blues
$500-$600 - Koni Sports
Open check book = Penske
I have the Koni Sports myself and they are wonderful, no cons or complaints. How harsh the ride is depends on the springs on my car. They also carry a lifetime replacement policy for the original owner. I can't think of a better shock that i could put on my car for the $

Be very careful what you wish for. You can't have optimum track shocks and street shocks at the same time. Track shocks require huge rebound forces which makes them miserable for the street. I know this because I have a set of custom valved Bilsteins on my track car.
These Bilsteins are the best track shock I've ever had. They are also the worst street shock I've ever had. Needless to say I love them.
The best all around shock I've ever had came from Myron at TPIS. I'm not sure if he even carries them anymore, but they were the best all around shock I've ever had on my C4.
My '84 has the Z-51 suspension and it loves the Bilstein shocks. It's like riding on roller coaster rails. Of course, it doesn't ride like a Buick, but I don't think any of us are looking for that!

KYB are very good. Good price point. They are slightly softer than the stock Bilsteins, which are excellent. But my butt tells me KYBs are good enough. I can spend the money I saved on better brake parts.
Understand your '84s suspension was already so stiff that it became the equivalent to an '85 Z-51.
Something to consider, and something that should only be discussed with other '84 owners. An '85+ owner may have a different experience and not fully understand the '84 suspension qualities.
I currently run KYBs on my car and they provide a very decent ride at the expense of at the limit ultimate handling. If you are looking for perfect track conditions I would stick with the Bilstiens or Koni, but at a price point I really appreciate the KYBs.
