If you knew more about engines, you wouldn't be quite so pleased with your "mods".

RACE ON!!!
I get more of a kick out of the term "mods" in general.
I think of a "mod" as something that increases power in a demonstrable amount and not the old "4-6CHP gain. 6HP and $3 will get you a coffee. That is probably just me though so if I offend anyone I apologize in advance

I disagree, at least regarding my application:

To quote SJW: "If you want the fan settings lower than this, change to a 160* thermostat and set the fans to:
Primary on/off: 190/180
Secondary on/off: 195/185"

This is how mine is setup and a 160* t-stat is optimum for this.

stock radiator+100deg+LT4 = 160 operating temp? or are you just saying the coolant flowing earlier is what you were after? i also have a 160deg thermostat and new stock radiator. on highway driving even on warm days the car stays very cool, it's only sitting in traffic or driving hard that can bring the temps up some. i think if i lived in AZ i would be calling ron davis, griffin or dewitt though, especially the car was tracked even a little bit.

I'm saying that I run a 160* because I have my fans reprogrammed to the temps stated above...& these settings are inappropriate for an LTx engine with the stock 180* 'stat, as it will cause the fans to run constantly at idle and low-speed after warm-up on all but the coldest of days.

Regardless, w/ the changes I've stated in my earler post (page 1), the car runs much cooler than it did before and handles the summer AZ temps no problem. If it didn't, believe me, I'd be on the phone w/ Ron Davis etc... in a heartbeat.

Hello,
I read the replys where some people like and some do not like colder thermostats.
I read where I don't know about engines, LMAO!
If a person, who understands the English language, read My post it stated it was in ref to MY CAR(not anyone else's) a 1987 model(and a LOT of folks who KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT engines, realize that this is an Aluminum headed L98). I stated that this is what I did and YES I am very happy with it.
The manufacturers make parts and components for many years of automobiles(not just a 1987 model). You can buy a matched set of parts for whatever year car(or Engine) that you want.
Anesthes, I am running a bit faster. I don't think it is quite a half second(I have top-end gears). You are very right, this will also make the car a good bit faster while also protecting your engine.

Maybe some of the folks should 'get-out' more often and release a lot of that 'built-up' inner stress.

As I said, This is what I did to MY CAR(a 1987), Take Care, -John

Anesthes,
I appreciate what you are saying and I don't take it personal!
I just don't understand why people want to argue so much? Do people think We are all married to each other here? It's like CNN taking things out of context to make an argument.

The way it was explained to me is, for a long time there was a few select people that were considered the 'elite'. If you have any ideas that conflict with theirs, you get flamed. The drones who follow the elite will often jump in. Most of those guys have been banned, and they went and stared another forum.

Fortunately, after a while the real 'elite' guys will PM you and you'll figure out who the good guys are and who are not. I've met a lot of really nice guys on here who know there stuff. Most of the guys who have performed a lot of mods to their car, and do their own tuning are pretty solid guys. Most of the guys with stock cars seem to have attitude. Then there is a handful of guys who give advice on every topic possible, but also have near stock cars. Makes you wonder if the advice is experience or just read from the FSM. The moderators and admins all seem pretty cool.
