Default L98 Buildup questions

I am currently building up the tired old L98 in my 1990. I ordered up the cast iron vortec heads (more flow at a great price). A half-inch comp cam valvetrain kit, and I'm planning on swapping the tpi out for a carburated setup (much more cost effective...even if the gas mileage is gonna suck.) I'm just wondering if you guys have any other suggestions for what I could add into this build up.

p.s. I have about a grand left in my budget.

Yeah, I already have a set of hooker long tube headers and true dual exhaust.

Also, my goal at the end up the project is to add about 100-150 hp over stock. Any help is much appreciated.

Even more cost effective would be to try the siamese intake base from stock base and runners. It will flatten out the power curve and nicely extend high end power.

I checked on the manifold and runner from TPiS. They want 475 for the runners and about 375 for the manifold. Plus with the cam and heads it's gonna cost about 600 for a custom ecu chip. That's really one of the biggest things that pushed me towards just doing the carb setup. I do appreciate the input though, thanx.

I don't spose you would know what kind've fuel pump I would need, sayin that I were to get a 650 cfm?

Just ported a set of Iron Vortecs, they are being flowed.
Heard good things about them, we will see.

Sure you are aware you lose your EGR, right?

If you can use a manual FP I have a brand new Holley HP mech pump in the box I cant use....

I was going to have mine ported but the local machine shop wants an outrageous price. I think stock vortec flow will work for right now. Why do I need to worry about losing my EGR? (not being a smartazz)
I'll check about the pump. If I can use it than I'd definitely be interested in buyin that pump off ya.

Also, what would be a good gear ratio to go with for my 1990 w/6-speed?

I checked out the zz4 but I think the cam I've got will work nicely on the setup so far. I don't spose anybody would know anything about what the L98 bottom ends stand up during NOS applications?

Just keep running the stock pump. I used the mallory regulator with return and have a constant 6psi to the carb.

I plan on swapping out to carb as well, but would suggest higher than 650cfm. Get a 750 double pump and jet it down, just incase you plan on going higher numbers down the road.

How do those heads flow at 6k+ RPM?

I have to disagree with this one

I run a 750 on my 454 and it feeds it fine so the 650 should be plenty

Would prefer the snappiness of the 650 and jet it up rather than a 750 if its a mild street motor.

I know in our 90 L98s we have forged flat top pistons that boosted the compression to 10.25:1, I have a buddy that runs a 75 shot on his 91 stock bottom which is the same as the 90 and hasn't had any problems

Might want to check into the Demon carbs with an annular booster, I think a speed demon is for durations between 220-240 @.050 duration cams.
