Default 6speed with 3.73

Thinking of changing 1989 auto trans with 3.73 rear end to 6 speed manual trans. Do I need to change the 3.73 rear end, what are the pro's and con's to this setup if possible? Thanks, Sean

3.73 gears work well with a 6 speed.

If your rear in the car is still a Dana 36, it won't stand up to the abuse it will receive from a stick.
Besides that, a 3.73 or 4.10 would work very well with a 6spd.

my problem was choosing between the 3.73 and 4.10, I ended up with a 3.90 and love it

If you considering a swap to ZF, I can tell you it is a lot of work!!!

Fabrication includes tunnel modification that require cutting and re-fiberglass work to make room needed for the ZF shifter.

You may PM Me if you decide to go through with it. I have pics and I can save you some frustration.

I did mine and love it!!
I only have 3:07 in now but I want to change to 3:73's

In fact I would go lower like 3.90 or 4.11 but I think 3.73 is it for a D36.

The ZF has a 2:1 Overdrive (.5)

3.73 will only be turning like 1700 RPM at 70 MPH. With 4.11's you would only be turning 1900 RPM.
