So i just got my MSD 6-BTM in the mail and i also purchased the GM adaptor harness for the LT1. EVerything is suprisingly straight forward. I am typically concerned with getting involved in too much wiring, but this kit is literally plug and play... except....
the timing control **** connection is not explained clearly ANYWHERE in the instructions.
here is the problem, MSD didn't even have an example of a 6-BTM install diagram, all the others show an external timing controller and ****.
the **** has two wires, a green and a violet. the kit comes with a "control **** connector" that you are suppose to put on yourself. Well, the harness that is comming out of the 6-BTM (the female connector) has two wires as well (obviously). the problem is that the wires comming out of the ignition box are grey and black??? How do i know which two to match up (i.e. grey with voilet, and black with green.... or black with violet and grey with green?)
Anyone know the answer please help me out, thanks!

Mine is green to black, purple to grey. But if memeory serves, the instructions said either way would work. But don't quote me, 'cause I can't remember for certain.
thanks a lot for responding. I will follow your diagram. I figured that it wouldn't matter, because the instructions are not clear (they don't even cover it at all).
what i also found unusual is that my "control ****" says "advance" and goes from 0-15 instead of saying "retard". does this matter?

That doesn't sound like the control **** I have. I'm not sure how it's lableled (I think it says "Boost Retard"), but I only have 1-3 degree settings. Sounds like they may have given you the wrong control unit, unless someone else chimes in that they have one similar.
I'm not sure of the functionality differences, but I would be hesitant to trust it without contacting MSD first, even if it might work.
i called MSD about the control ****. they said it would work, but the resistance is opposite. The numbers on the **** itself are irrelavent. However, i did not feel comfortable with the "advance" ****, so they said that they can replace it with the correct **** for me. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
No problem. I would've been very uncomfortable using it. I'm not sure how you would've correctly dialed it in. I guess every 5th degree of labeled advance would have been one degree of boost retard. But it would've still made me nervous.
