Default MSD Opti Spark

Anybody have this issue? I purchased and installed an MSD 8381 distributor in my 1992 Vette. All was going well until I got to the part where you hook up the harness supplied with the Opti to the GM harness. Low and behold, they don't fit together. They are both four pin connectors, but not the same width across. Is there some sort of adaptor a person has to purchase? Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.......

somewhere on this form is the chart for the change over... Wrecking yard and get a late model connector and the hook up is:

black/red(stripe) TO BROWN/YELLOW - LOW RESOLUTION
purple/white to brown/orange - high res
yellow to red - 12 volt
black/pink to red/green - ground

The 5th wire in the LT1 harness is a ground/shielding wire. It's not needed on the MSD opti. It doesn't connect to anything on the GM opti either... Just wraped around the other 4 wires for shielding...

I just finished up my 92 and the MSD is a great addition...

The above is exactly right, I installed the MSD opti on my 92 2 weeks ago and called MSD. They gave me the pinout.

Are you looking at the connector that you unplugged from the GM Opti? Then it will get worse , Follow that harness up under the passenger side fuel rail. There is another connector (6 pin) under the cover about the center of the intake manifold. That is where you want to wire into. Remove the old short harness up to that point. Its not needed.

As easy2no said, go to a wrecking yard and get a connector off a Camaro, Firebird or some GM car that matches the connector that is on the MSD distributor. There are about 3 different kinds that look alike, so take your distributor with you to match up the connector...the difference is where the 'key' is positioned in the connector you need.

All '92s have the 6 pin connector w/ 5 wires. The bare wire is a ground shield in the short harness. Cut the wires close to the 6 pin connector and wire in the connector from the wrecking yard. You should be able to go by the wire colors that easy2no has in his post.

Hello, Bill. Glad you got yours running again. Eddie
