Default Radiator replacement for a '96?

Last night I pulled the radiator to clean the fins (I can't believe how much JUNK was in there!) and in the process I found a small hairline crack in the right side tank near the bottom hose. Since it's out anyway, time to fix it or maybe replace it. So....

Does anyone have any suggestions for an aftermarket radiator that provides some benefit? Lighter weight? More cooling capacity? If there are no options for an aftermarket piece, how about any good or bad recommendations for factory replacement parts? If it matters, the car is a 6 speed, so I don't need the tranny cooler.

I priced a replacement through Napa, it was Modine at somewhere around $270.

Thanks,
Jeff

A stock AC Delco replacement is only $215 through The Last Detail. http://www.tld-corvette.com

Unless you are making some big time additional HP the stock rad is fine.

I'm using a Dewitt Griffin model. It is the top of the line one for them. It looks to be a "bolt in" with some minor plastic trimming-not really a bolt in then, but anyway it should do the job.

My LT4 ran just fine on the street but after more than 3 track hot laps at some larger tracks (Watkins Glen, etc) my coolant temp began to climb past 215 so I deemed more cooling a requirement. Engine was completely stock with a clean radiator. Just depends on what you need it for.

My cost was $500 so not cheap for sure.

check with the likes of Advanced Auto... you might find one cheaper... but the factory is a good part... I would rather spend a little more jingle on a factory part than a questionable aftermarket - particuarly when it is as important as the cooling system!!!

I just did this to my 93, it had been punctured by a rock. I got it from Jeff Kopp(18carfan) it cost $199 and it was a little thicker than my original. :chevy

Cool, thanks for the info guys. I have to agree that the factory rad should be fine for some time to come.
