my C4 left me stranded at a shopping mall yesterday. wonderful... !
Got back into the car to go home, lots of cranking of the motor happening, but not on your life would it start.? .. towed home
I just want to be sure I am on the right track with identifying the problem.
The fuel pump is silent when I turn the ignition key, and there appears to be no spark getting to the plugs. The engine will crank over fine, and there is plenty of power in the battery.
Is this the VATS system immobilizing the car? The symptoms sound similar to the situation I seen described in other posts, but I wanted to be sure.
I've tried starting the car again a number of times in the past 24hrs, and there is no change. No response from the fuel pump etc.
many thanks

It would help if you told us what year your car is. A Vats problem will not allow the car to crank at all. Your problem is fuel or spark in orientation.
VATS won't allow cranking when it is defective or doesn't detect the correct resistance in the ign key pellet. Measure the fuel pressure at the shrader valve on the end of the fuel rail. It should be about 40 psi. During cranking, use a timing light or pull a plug wire and bring a grounded wire within 1/2 inch of the plug wire end. The timing light should flash, there should be a nice fat spark to a plug wire.
I also vote for posting what year C4 you are asking help for. No one on this forum is clairvoyant.
