Those 11" wide 36/38mm offset wheels (ZR1 or GS) are getting harder to find. Bones Ent. says they can't get any. Tomz says check back in a week.
Wheel adapters add another $200 to the wheel cost and another 7lbs per corner (my guesss).
Has anyone physically tried to put an 17x11 wide 56mm offset rim on the back of an earlier C4? A quick look (in the rain ) it looks awfully close.
In theory this would put the outer lip of the wheel almost even with the original wheel, but the inner lip would be closer (or interfere) to the suspension. Wheel caculator shows it to be 37mm closer....time to clean out the garage.
Up front would still be 38mm offset as 17x9.5 wheels are still available.
Have you tried AFS Wheels? They advertise exclusively on flea-bay. Do a search ther using "AFS Corvette Wheels" I found two sets; one with tires, another without.
I have a set of adapters and I'll bet they only weigh 3 pounds each or less. They're aluminum and some studs. Just saying, it doesn't add as much weight as you'd think and it's concentrated in the middle so it's almost no rotating mass.
Thank Leather. I can't remember where I came up with that figure (shipping weights?). It seemed excessive, and I'm glad it's not. That opens up some more alternatives...
I know what you are saying. But it is either spend 500-700$ for the cheap ZR1s for track wheels and take the extra 1lb for the adapters or spend upwards of 2k for rims that weigh about 5lbs less.
Needless to say, 1lb of unsprung mass in my pocketbook weighs less than 1300$, whether I like it or not.
Well, I really wanted the black style ZR1 rim, but NO ONE has them in stock or can say when they would have any more.
AFS - No Black, 11x17 38mm in stock. No Vredistein 315/35x17 tires in stock (on back order).
TomZ - No 11x17 38mm wheels in stock. Vredistein tire on hand though.
Bones - No 11x17 38mm in stock and not getting anymore.
Lakeshore - Don't have 11x17 38mm (didn't bother to ask if they were getting any as there customer service is ???)
So I pulled the trigger and got the polished AFS wheels instead, and purchased tires from Tomz. This means I pay extra for lugs nuts and have to pay locally for mounting and balancing
Pray that everything comes together as planned....
