Default Crossover to eliminate cat?

Would it be worthwhile to cut my exhaust and add a crossover X pipe?

The crossover would replace the cat. I was thinking that this would be a cheap way to have true duals.

Would I gain any HP? Any estimates?

I was looking at an X pipe something like this one. It would be easy to cut and clamp on. That way it could be for off road use on track days.

Someone had to try this mod. I've read that you can pick up 5 HP just by eliminating the cat. Also, an X pipe is supposed to increase the scavenging effect.

I ordered this one from summit racing. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

It should be easy to slip on and off with clamps.

Let me know how this works out for because I've been thinking of doing the same thing. My system now is Hooker long tubes, hollowed main cat and a Borla 2.5" rear y-pipe. I want to cut out the cat and adapt a x-pipe to the front and reary-pipes. I'd also like to install some sort of flanges so I can remove the rear portion of the exhaust for access to diff, etc. I tried searching and was surprised I couldn't any threads about someone trying anything similar.

I should have it on in a couple of weeks. I like your idea about installing flanges. I found this info on the net regarding X pipes.

Since V8’s fire unevenly, exhaust exits in pulses rather than a steady flow. While one pipe is filled with pressure the other pipe is relatively pressureless but the connecting of the two pipes in a siamese pattern allows pressure to be released to the other side. This action allows the exhaust to pass through the pipe quicker and this better ‘breathing’ increases horsepower
