Have your bilsteins revalved, thats the best except for the really expensive shocks.

I ran KYB's for a little while, which greatly improved my ride, but really degraded my handling. Have your bilsteins rebuilt for "comfort ride" :)

Really depends on what you want. I was satisfied with the handling of my 86 and needed to replace the shocks. Somebody before me had some no name worn out shock to begin with so I just opted for a set of Mono matics. Greatly improved the ride and for me the handling is fine. I don't autocross, just daily commute and weekend cruising. About $80 total for all 4 and really easy to change. The rear can be tricky if you don't use 2 jacks though.

I just put KYB's on my 90. I like them a lot. I had the original Bilstiens on it with over 125,000 on them. The car rode bad as it was (i've owned it for less than 2 years) so I like the ride with the KYB's. I don't race the car, and don't get up into the mtn.s much to push it in the curves. I use it more or less as a weekend fun ride so they are plenty of shock for my usage.

i say get new Bilsteins custom valved for softer ride. But that might not solve the front springs problem, that makes your ride harsh too. Z51 springs are hell and the stock ones really arent that much better. Though i see that you have the stock springs since you dont have a Z51.
