After trying EVERYTHING and having no luck, I was about to pull the trigger on a new harness and PCM to upgrade my car to a 1994 system.
As a last gasp I bought ANOTHER new coil from the autoparts store. I figured that since everything else checked out (twice) it could be possible that my brand new MSD coil was bad. I stuck it on the car and got a nice, strong spark.
I'm sooo happy that I bought a new coil, MSD opti, ignition control module, and was about to buy a new harness because a brand new part was bad. I found it hard to believe that a new part was defective out of the box.
I'd like MSD to cover the $1000 I spent due to their crappy made in China coil. The MSD coil it replaced was clearly stamped "made in the USA" and lasted several hard years...

I'm not sure where my ebay MSD coil came from but it's been on the car for a couple of years now with no problems. I kept the original stock coil for troubleshooting purposes just in case of future probelms.
As long as the factories keep trying to eliminate jobs and make more money for themselves we are going to be stuck with some substandard parts made by slave labor in foriegn countries. I hate this junk from China. You can look at their stuff new sometimes and say to yourself, it looks like this part was made with a hammer, chisel and a file, behind a mud hut. Their steel is crap and I'm sure their "aroomanum" is too.
A little known fact about "hot" coils is, because they usually carry more primary current than a stock coil for increased spark intensity, they run hotter and have less of a life expectancy. Being made in China is even worse.
For a single coil system, about the hottest coil I would want to try on a street car is the stock LT1 '96 ignition system. If that is not good enough, it's time for a multi-coil system.
My belief is hot coils are fine for the quarter mile where you wont be stranded, but not for driving long distances where reliability is of the utmost.

I hope we continue using Chinese labor for as long as possible. All unions do is drive up costs, keep bad workers working, and hold no employee accountable for anything. We have a huge union problem here in Boston, and from the research I've done and watched the unions are single handedly responsible for keeping GM and Ford unprofitable. Chinese laborers, and non union laborers know they are lucky to HAVE a job, and excel their education and strive to better their life.
A ton of new GM parts I've been getting lately have "made in china" printed under the GM logo. Costs are down, and the part is straight unlike most of the 'proudly made in the US' parts I get.
I would absolutely love to buy nothing from China, but sometimes there's nothing available made in America. It seems that American companies have outsourced everything. What I do refuse to buy are food products that come from China. If you want to die, then go ahead and eat food from there.

Or at least dog food
What some of you guys may not know is that GM moved its worldwide purchasing to China and require that all major suppliers have a factory there as well. Reality sometimes sucks...
