I have agonized over a miss that would only show up after the engine was at 200+ degrees and @ ~4000rpms. This spring I decided to change the plugs and wires since last fall just before I put the '93 away for the winter it was evident that I had some arching going on under the hood.
After I was done I took it out for a test ride and at first I was very pleased with the results, until it reached ~220. The miss was back but this time I could hardly keep it running at idle. In fact, it died in the driveway and would not restart. This next morning it started and ran fine (until hot).
No codes had been thrown up until this but now I was getting the dreaded code 16. The vette was undriveable like this so I decided I would tackle the Opti myself. Disassembly went well up to removing the balancer. Two nights and a lot of banging, turning the crank, repeat... it finally broke loose.
Upon taking the Opti apart this is what I found...
How was this still functioning? This '93 has 96k miles on it and this appears to be the original Opti. I have ordered an MSD and I can't wait to get in. I will also be doing a new WP since the one I removed also had it's bearing falling out.
