Default Build questions?

Im re-building the motor in my moms '86, I was thinking of adding a mild cam while I was in there. Can you suggest a good cam that will be TPI friendly? I was probably going to bump compression to somewhere around 9:5.1 to a little under 10.1, the only other mod that it will have is long-tube headers. The car has a 4+3 as well.

Pick something pretty mild. Go by the cam manufacturers recommendations. Your intake system won't allow for any significant power production above approx 5000 rpms, so don't pick a cam with a power band extending much over 5500 rpm. When the power band rpm is raised, what is added on top, is subtracted from the bottom, but your intake won't allow for adding to the top so all a raised rpm range will is subtract from the bottom.

The compression will help. You might consider going up to 10.0:1 if you can do it economically.

Pick headers with 1 5/8" primary tubes.

RACE ON!!!

What about tuning? Do you think a bump of timing and fuel pressure would do it?

I have a Summit TPI cam, a g5000 I believe....it is no longer in the mail order catalog, but I believe you can get it online still. It was very cheap and it came with lifters and valve springs. It specs out a hair higher than the stock cam, and my 85 with 10-1 compression has more torque than ever, it will pull overdrive in town and up hills. Top end is about the same, but it gets there alot quicker. I don't believe you need to add fuel pressure though you may achieve a better spray pattern. My timing is at 10 btdc.
