do i really need the insulation over the tube? or will the plastic around it start to melt? the old one was about worn away only covered the lower part of the tube
Look at how close the spark plug wires run under that tube!!! Since you still have some insulation under that tube you may be ok as far as protection the wires??
I didn't like that "lace-up" cover from MAM so bought the $$ bullet and bought a new tube with cover from the local Chevy dealer, mostly for cosmetic reasons.
I think that with the earlier versions you could slip a new insulating sleeve over the EGR tube once you had the tube removed from the engine because it doesn't have the bolt flanges at each end like the '88 and newer units.
