hypertech chip will it help mods are exhs.

Instead of such a chip, you might try:
-AFPR to bump fuel pressure a little
-160deg T-stat & fan switch
-cut back stock AC Delco spark plugs, details on my site
-bump TPS low end voltage till ECM just throws a code then back off .020Vdc at idle position.
-bump base timing from stock 6deg BTDC to 8deg.
-toss the spare & jack
-run with 1/4 to 2/3 tank of fuel
I was a new corvette owner of a 1985 coup. Had not found the Forum yet. Always looking for more power and the chip was promoting 50 HP! I only had the car about a month and bought the chip with the 160 thermostat. For the next couple of years I had hit and miss problems with engine ping. I tried different brands of gas, went to premium, tired adding octane boost. Replaced knock sensor. Finally just played with the distributor until it would not ping....well most of the time.
I finally decided that a custom chip with the few modifictions that I had made at that time was the way to go. Doing a search on the Forum, I found a man named Tom Wong up in Vancouver Washington that was a Forum member and doing a search of his posts found that he did not BS fellow members. He always was helpful and precise with his suggestions. And I found out that he did custom chips for the 85. At that time there was not anyone in the SF Bay area that did. I usually made a trip to the Seattle area monthly and passed right thru Vancouver. I called Tom and made arrangements to have him do a dyno tune and chip for the car.
He did a base line with my existing set up (Hypertech chip) and found that it was advancing timing up to 43* and reducing fuel as it did this!
The chip had been the source of the engine ping all this time. Tom usually does not program his chips for this car to more than 34*...and adds fuel. His chip has continued to hold up for the additional modifications to the car over the years.Spend you money on something else. It will not live up to its promises. You have found that the 1.6 RR adds a few ponies. Now concentrate on the exhaust. Prior to last year I ran a 14.1 thru the 1/4 mile. Last year I added under drive pulleys and then (for the track only) pulled the cat and ran a straight thru pipe in place of the cat that I build myself. The car was now running solid 13.6's.
Good luck with your 85 and do your research before jumping in. There is too much experience with our cars on this Forum for you not to listen to advice and real world experience.
