Default Dynoed the car today

I had the car dynoed today just to see what Im making.
Previously before a tune, ported plenum, roller rockers, underdrive pulleys and the moron running the dyno not having the fan pointed at the car, I was making about 230hp and 330tq. Ill have to dig up the old dyno to confirm that.

This new run: 286hp@5000rpm
372tq@3200rpm
AFR:14.3 just about across the board
At this place the guy seemed to know what he was doing a little more so he didnt overheat my car. Temps were in the 180's and 190's proir to each run.

I have to email Alvin my dyno sheet to see where it needs improvment once I can find a scanner that works. Mine is busted.

There was a few funny things about the different dyno runs. One run was day and night from the other.
The run just before this one was: 258hp@5000rpm
317TQ@3600rpm
AFR:13.7

The power dropped off pretty early and the guy said it might have to do with timing and my fuel grade (I was cheap and only had 89 octaine in it) or possible my plugs. Ill have to get it scanned so you guys could see whats up.
Car is pretty fast on the street. I could use a better TC and some gears with some *****. These 2.59s just arent cutting it.

Good numbers but beware. A 14.3 AFR is really lean at wide open throttle. It would probably make more power if you richened it up.

If that tune is touched up, whats a rough estimate of hp increase? 5? 10?

i got 13 extra horses to the wheels with my tune. slight timing chance and afr change did the trick.

Default Planning same thing...

Chris..was that a Mustang dyno? That's what I have in my area & understand the readings are notoriously conservative.
Modest mods: Forced air, 53MM TB, 1.6 RR's, Borla cats.
Expecting @ least 25-30 RWHP. Naturally the forced air won't be effective on the rollers but the fat lady sings on the open hwy.
Thanks
Check your 6

An L98 engine's power will fall off dramatically after 4500 RPM; it will most definately lose torque after 4000 RPM. Even with a "hi-flow" intake system with the long runner set up.

Some 12:1. Some others 13:1, some others 12.5:1.
It depends on many factors.
One of these is the timing.

It was a mustang dyno. So does this mean I might have a little more right now? That would be nice.

Conv90: My timing is set 8deg advance. And I just started putting 89 octaine in it ( which I wont do anymore). Im going to ask alvin what I should do with the timing once I upload the dyno sheet today.

Thats base timing at 8deg advanced and 89 octaine fuel. Temps were at 180-190 range.

Notice the completely different AFR's. Can some one explain that to me?

Looking at your charts...I would be a bit disappointed as I wouldn't know which is correct. The dyno operator should provide you at least two runs that are similiar to confirm the run wasn't a fluke.

No experience with an auto, but it appears the torque peak is a spike when the car is going WOT...normally not an the real 'peak.'

If the engine temps were similar...it is odd that the AFR's are so different as I was going to say one was on the lower end of closed loop and the other at the extreme high end, but no.

As you already noted...run the best gas for pete's sake...how much was the dyno time...worth a 93 octane fill up for sure.

Nice numbers.

I'd guess that the first run was in open loop and the 2nd in closed loop. This is not uncommon on back to back runs.

Open loop will typically target about 0.5 point richer AFR at WOT than closed loop due to the additional load compensation.

The 1/2 point offfest plus the possibility that the ecm could be pulling additional fuel in closed loop appears to fit the data from the pulls. This could explain the AFR discrepancy between the pulls.

Edit: After review of some of my old data, I'm seeing the same AFR target during PE in both open and closed loop on back to back runs. Disregard the comments regarding the 1/2 point offset.

My impression is that it is likely rich in open loop resulting in sub-128 blms in closed loop.

It would also appear to need additional PE enrichment to bring the AFR in line during closed loop PE, especially if changes are made to lean out open loop.

Both issues can be addressed in the tune. Scan data would be useful to confirm.
