Need input on labor.
I recently posted about an a/c problem I am having. (blows heat all the sudden, -02 code, temp door motor circuit fault) My mechanic - who is no longer my mechanic - said at least 8 hours labor to take apart the entire dash, etc, etc, to get in there and fix this. Then of course however much for parts.
Is this realistic?
I want to add the the Chevrolet dealer in Clearwater FL does NOT know to check for codes in a C4 vette. Everybody got that? I asked if he checked for the error codes - told him what I got when I did - and he didn't know what I was talking about. Wow. How disappointing. This is a Chevy dealer. (and I was talking to the manager)

dont know about labor, but that's ridiculous that they dont even know how to check codes! And then they end up charging you ten times what they need to because they guess and throw parts all day long with YOUR money. my bradenton chevy dealer wanted $300 to ONLY diagnose why the hood wasn't closing correctly! this was a couple years ago when i was oblivous to this forum and fsm. oh and not to mention their great parts mark-ups - i just paid $9 for one trans pan bolt and $11 for the pan magnet that they left out a couple years back when the pan fluid and filter were changed. now im rebuildin the trans myself and will never take my car to the dealer again (except for really hard-to-find parts).

Doesn't suprise me much. Sounds like they really don't want to fix your Vette because they are not experienced in that type of repair. They are warning you that the education they need will cost you per hour before they even start. My a/c doesn't work because the door clip broke ( I found parts of it on the floor ) so I know what is wrong. But it is a PITA to get to so it is still broke so I just turn off the heater core so I can use the a/c and econ. There are numerous threads abut this problem, try a search. Don't let them BS you if you know more than they do. Knowlege is power when dealing with stealerships. My $.02

It doesn't surprise me that a Chevy dealer is unfamiliar with C4's. Most of them don't even know how to fix the new ones. Bring it to someone in your area that is familiar with C4's and AC. Speak to someone in the local NCRS Chapter or a local Corvette club. They will know someone that will fix it reasonably and not charge you for their "learnig curve."

The 8 hours is pretty close for book time on the heater door thing. The labor guide will have you take apart the entire dash to get to it, it's a really big project. We joke around on here that the heater core is GM part number 00000001 and the entire car was built around the heater core.
There is a faster way to do it, but the mechanic is entitled to labor guide time for the job, which is probably pretty close to 8 hours.

Thanks for all the input here people. This website is not pushing out email alerts to me when someone responds to one of my subscribed threads so I forgot to check back on this one. I don't know what the problem is as all my settings look correct.
