Im thinking bout puting a set of headers on my lt4 but with it be worth the time and money? ill take the cats off and run true dual right into my corsa exhuast. if so what are some good headers i want a long tube or at least mid length?
Yes, they are worth it, especially if you plan any other mods down the road. Exotic Muscle has a group buy going right now. Melrose also makes a great set of long tubes.
YES. I have an LT4 with EM headers, RT cats and Corsa. The sound is amazing. Hit up my homepage (photobucket) for some videos of what it will sound like.
I'm sure there's some performance bump too. Good prep for a HotCam
YES,I have EM 's,no cats, and flowmasters and it sounds great. The Flowmasters were already on the car when I bought it,but I plan on another brand after I do my cam swap. They dont hurt the eyes either when you pop the hood.
In conjunction with further or future mods, I feel that long tubes are worth it. I have Stainless Works long tubes on my car with B&B exhaust. It sounds great! With the other mods, my LT4 put down 378 RWHP on the dyno.
I like my Stainless Works. Both EM and SW offer kits that bolt right up to the Corsa exhaust. These were my final 2 to choose from and I went with the stainless construction.
I have these, and they were fairly easy to install. I did have to shorten and flare the smog fitting on the driver's side, which wasn't mentioned in the instructions (not an issue if you're not going to retain the smog fittings). I also initially went with the copper Mr. Gasket gaskets as recommended, though, and had a lot of leaks. I wound up pulling those out and putting the stock gaskets back in, and they worked just fine. In addition to other benefits, I find the car much easier to work on now (plug changes, etc.).
is a car hoist needed ? does the motor have to be raised out of the motor mounts?
In my case, I had the front of my car up on Rhino ramps with an extra 2x10, and also had my back wheels up on a couple of 2x10s stacked (I don't have decent jack stands and don't like them much anyway). This was easy and gave me plenty of room to install the headers from underneath (as instructed). I didn't have to touch the motor mounts.
