I need a little help from my friends.
Trying to install a MSD opti and it won't slip in and seat. I know about not forcing it or using the bolts to tighten it down. I lined up the rotor with where the old rotor was and I rock the rotor back and forth slightly keeping the base square with the engine and she won't go.
I inspected the original shaft which seats just fine with the MSD shaft. They appear to be different.
I took some pictures - take a look.
The first pic is the original opti shaft. It appears to have a short spline down the middle.
The MSD is a broad shoulder.
What do you think????
8481 for 93-94 & 84811 for 94-97....I'd call MSD techs @ 915-855-7123...you've got a 92 right? Might have a retro fit for your earlier model.
Jegs shows it as 93-94 for F body & 92-94 Corvette specific, I'd still call MSD! You've been shafted!!!

This is supposed to be a 8381 which, according to MSD, fits the 1992. All I know is that damn thing won't install.
I can slide the original shaft in and out with no problem.

Pretty sure if you got the wrong year you'd know it immediately... there is a big difference in the mounting of later optis, this page has some pics ttp://www.impalasuperstore.com/naisso/Forum2005/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=30984&whichpage=1
do you have a digital caliper? That would be able to tell you the thickness of the teeth on the shaft. Before I switched to a 94+ style opti, I had purhcased one for my 93 and it took a couple of attempts to align the dial on the opti with the shaft.
I got my MSD installed this afternoon.
I was having problems finding the "sweet" spot and finally applied a little logic to the problem and it slide in like it was on viagra.
Still have the wiring to do along with the WP install.
Thanks to those that replied.

I feel a lot better too...got a MSD going in tomorrow. Help stamp out that damn OS.... spread the word! Incidently, I'm told Viagra's only good for four hours.... that install must have been a real short enjoy!
Cheers
