Thanks for any input
1992 coupe fx3
street crusier only
Thanks for everyones input. I think I'll go new as the rebuild could end up being the same price.
Next question. Who has the best price. Found the partsladi @ 179.99ea
for the rear and 183.54ea for the front. Any other ideas
Thanks again for everyones input.

Reason: decided to buy new
A previous owner had the Bilsteins rebuilt on my track car. In this case he had them rebuilt with the 'Moroca valving'. I understand Bilstein can modify the valving for whatever use you want. I am only assuming that they could soften up the touring setting and retain the stiffness in the sport and performance settings. Call them. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1866825

Onde thing to consider is vehicle down time. Rebuilding the shocks typically takes a couple weeks so you would be without the car for that period of time.
The rebuild costs do vary depending on what needs to be done to the shocks. A simple rebuild of the internals costs less than if you need to have the gears replaced or maybe if the shock rod is bad. The best thing to do is to call and ask what the prices are and turnaround times.
Figure on $199 for new shocks (each). So there would be some cost savings on rebuilding but if you decide on any custom valving, that could eat up the differences.
I remember someone here mentioning that Bilstein did not do anything to refurbish the exterior finish, so they might still look like old shocks (depending on how much of a garage queen your vette is)

I called Bilstein a few years ago inquiring about how they could modify the valving, the tech told me they could not change the "spread" in other words soften up the Tour while stiffening up the Performance. He told they can only move all three up and down a stiffness scale, whatever they do to one will affect the other two.
There should be a thread about a forum member who can supply alum gears in place of the plastic gears. I understand that if you live in a cold winter climate with the FX3 suspension, and you drive in those conditions, you should disconnect the connections at the computer. This prevents the start up check with cold thick shock fluid from stripping the gears.

if you decied to have your FX3 shocks rebuilt by bilstein your warranty from bilstein is only 30-90 days if you buy new bilstein FX3 shocks from a authorized dealer then the warranty becomes LIFETIME! so do the math rebuilt FX3 shock "new gear included" $145.00 ea + shipping and it takes bilstein 2-3 wks to complete the rebuilt and they'll last no more than 40K at best!, or go on ebay pay $179.00 ea + shipping for new FX3 shocks which comes with a LIFETIME warranty.
eshocks.com has them for $179.40 each for front AND back. Might want to try them, here is the link : http://www.eshocks.com/bil_veh.asp?M...=All&SubChar=Q[/QUOTE]
Thanks janrvae: I had not seen them before. Best price I've seen. Ordered today.
