Strange Pinging up top

Strange Pinging up top
I dunno why, but my last vette did this too. It pings a little at WOT, at around 4600-5000 rpm. Any ideas? Should I set my timing back some? (Say if it's at 8º, should I set it to 6º?) Thanks!

Timing is a good place to start if it's more than +6deg.
If you think it's the fuel try a can of octane boost.
A scan tool would tell you if the ECM is pulling timing on the first ping or two, as it should.
Check for any codes; a bad ESC would not let the ECM pull timing and you would hear ping.
You might try a 160 deg stat & aux fan sw to get the coolant temp down and reduce knock tendency; tie the aux fan relay input to the main fan relay input so both come on around the 160deg range (see C4 Tech Tip).

If it's not the typical stuff, it might be the problem one member here had with his 86... (BBA is his name) weak valve springs we're his problem.
