Default 96 LT1: SYS Intermittantly Flashing

I finally got my vette back from the dealership today, well....everything is good to go with one exception. I'm Intermittanlty getting a "SYS" flasing in the LCD readout. I took it back to the dealership after I noticed it, well, low and behold it wouldn't do it for them. But.....he agreed with me that it was probally low battery voltage from the 3 months of inactivity. The starter turns a little slower then it used to but nothing major...just noticeable. I don't want to take the damn thing back up there this week, do you think it's just a poor surface charge on the battery causing this. Owners manual says it's an electrical problem. The car was in for an engine replacement so there's always a chance something else could be causing it...........any suggestions?

I just went through the same thing on my 95. Brought it in for my servicing just before my 6 year warranty ran out. Got the car back and the next day battery was dead. After charging I got the blinking sys and brought it back to the dealer. Ended up getting a new battery. Seems the what causes the blinking sys is the dreaded mistake of bringing the car to the dealer for servicing.

What was the battery charging at when you first started it up? I think the SYS light will go on for an overcharge as well as a undercharge condition.

If the CCM(central control module) {not the ECM(electronic controll module) which deals with the engine emmision controlls} detects a fault in one of the systems it monitors, it will flash the SYS. One of the most common faults is the battery voltage being out of a set range for a certain amount of time. Jimbo, if you are getting 16 volts, the voltage regulator is shot. It is in the generator(alternator), so you're looking at a new or rebuilt one. Give Jeff Kopp a call for one. Probably looking at about $140.

Update: it was the battery that was causing this for me. Thanx for all of the input everyone.

I too got hit by the mysterious "back from the dealer" bad battery!! I had no problems with the battery until I had the 30,000 mile service done. When I got it back it ran great but I noticed it was starting a little slower. Two weeks later I notice the "sys" showing up intermittantly. One week later the Vette won't start. I just put a new battery in it and so far no sign of trouble (other than my frustration level over what you have to go through to change the battery in a '94 Vette!).

Makes you wonder if the techs leave the interior or underhood lights on, and drain the battery.
