My new A/C condenser is arriving today, planning on replacing it tonight. Supposed to be 90 tomorrow, and I want A/C. System has already been evacuated.
Anybody got any tips for replacing it?
How much oil should I put in the system, when I go to recharge it?
Capacity is 8 ozs - I wouldn't put more than an oz in the condensor as it's a long way from the compressor. Better to put 4 ozs in a new Accumulator and another 3 ozs in the compressor. In fact, I'd remove the compressor and drain whatever is in it, add 4 ozs, turn the shaft a dozen or so times in one direction, then the other, drain & repeat, then put 3 fresh ozs in it. You'll need new seals for the lines.
You can't charge until you suck all the air out of it with a vacuum pump. Let it run until you've got 28 inches (depends on altitude) or so on your gage set. Let it sit and if it falls an inch or two, that's just residual moisture boiling off. Run the pump again until it's steady. If it won't hold a vacuum, there's a leak.
Let vacuum pull in the first can. Make sure any low charge trouble code is erased (disconnect and reconnect the battery). Start it up and to keep it from cycling, jumper the low pressure switch harness with a paper clip. Let the system suck in the balance of the charge.
Already got the vacuum pump and gauge set. And currently, the only leak in the system is the condenser -- and a major one at that. Gotta run out and grab refrigerant later this afternoon. Looking forward to having working A/C -- and a system that keeps a charge.
