There are a ton of post on lowering. Especially in the General Section. The front is not an easy task! I have a few post from when I did mine. There are several articles written on it from different people. Just Google it or search on here. I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for.

I didn't mess with buying the kit when I did mine. It didn't seem to make any sense to cut the rubber pad all the way off just to glue a shorter one back on when I could just cut the original one to the height I wanted. Plus I've read several posts from guys saying they had problems getting the new pads to stay glued in place, but I've never heard of the factory adhesive giving way.

And since I wasn't buying the wedges I just went to Fastenal and bought the 9/16" bolts I needed. I actually got them for free so my lowering job didn't cost me a dime.

I was looking for rear lowering bolts and Fastenal couldn't find them for me They only were able to get 8" also they may not of tried very hard to locate them. Ended up getting them from Eckler's ( Bought just the bolts and nuts)

Have you started yet?

Start disassembling the front end first. As you go questions will come up and we will help you to get your Vett lower to the ground.

We have pleanty of "lowering Veterans" in here. Wev and Jeff helped me. My problem was the monospring shims. I'm waiting for my Wi-Fi card, once I get it, I can e-mail you pictures of the process.

Ensure the Vette is very high, to remove the stock monospring it needs lots of clearance.

BEWARE, it doesnt stop there...

You'll have to remove the brakes and rotors, do you already have a C5 conversion?...
...32mm sway bar front and 26mm rear
...poly bushings
...don't forget to check the spare tire, I bet it is deflated

There ya go!!! If I was to do it all over again that's exactly what I'd do. The kit is a waste of money! But being the novice I am at chit like this I just bought the kit from MAM. So here is what I'd do now....

I would just remove the steel caps on the OEM rubbers on the spring, sand them down and glue the caps back on. Cut the spring support brackets accordingly. That's it! Put it back together. Of course my car is a '96 so this might not work for other years.

More details please! Bolt length, thread, grade? What did you use to sand down the pad? I figure cutting it down one inch lowers the front one inch....

How much did you lower in front and rear total?

I'm sure a LOT of people would interested in hearing more details on how to lower their vette for almost nothing! Pics would be awesome too if you happened to snap any at the time.

Thanks in advance,

Jonathan

Most you should have to spend is 19.99+shipping from Eckler's pn # 22663 this is for 9/16 by 10" long bolts grade 8 w/ nylock nuts and for some epoxy to glue the caps for the fronts back on as stated by Wev's vette.

Well i'm sure everyone will have their own opinion, but if you are going to have everything off the car now is the time to do two major upgrades if you have the money. Coilovers in the front and the c5 brake upgrade to the front. I have done the first half and the latter portion is going on in the next few weeks. It is relativly simply to install the coilovers, which offers you a variable ride height and different dampning values. The coilovers i installed were QA1 12 point adj, and they can ride smooth or ride super stiff and grip the road like a mad man. The hardest part of the install is removing the mono leaf. But beware if you install coilovers you have to move the sway bar. Or if your just going to drive it on the street, you can leave it off. That is what i have done for the last 3 months and the car handles better with the coilovers and no sway bar than it ever did with the mono leaf style and sway. I am eventually going to put the sway bar on before i take the car to a track, and may make my own but at this point for just daily driving there isn't much need for it. Hope this is a helpful opinion.

When doing the removal just be very patient and not in a hurry, or all you will do is get mad and screw things up. Good luck

The front could be intimidating. Take Vette to the local car wash and clean the whole front components and early tomorrow morning.

wheels off, Brake calipers off, brake lines off and cap them with a rubber cap, rotors off, using a jack-keep LCA up, you may/will need a ball joint tool ($9.99 at NAPA), remove pit arms, loose shock at the bottom, remove ball joints, if you brake the ball joints rubber caps, buy new ones, lower the LCA, remove shock, remove the 4-bolts that hold the front monospring. NOW, if the car is not high enough you'll know, slide the monospring out.

Take a Brake

Cut off the rubber mounts.

If you plan on re-using the shims, I think it would be easier if you heat it up. This procedure will melt the rubber and the excess rubber will peel off. Some owners did not re-used their shims, I did.

I did not re-used the stock monospring. I bought a Sport VBP monospring and it came with the rubber mounts glued. I read owners glued them with epoxy but VBP glues theirs with windshield glue.

Here is from another owner

Be best to buy the ball joint tool! Ask me how I know. ......Those lower ball joints are 100.00 a piece. If you break the grease rubber with a ball fork you're screwed. I was!
