OK, lots of talk about overheating on here, every summer. Question is, what temperature is really too hot ? How much heat does it take to kill a head gasket ? Or crack a head ? How high are you willing to risk it ? I pulled the radiator today and cleaned out the leaves and stuff from the last 50000 miles. Took a drive in the 95* heat, in traffic. Got to 237* with the AC on. Makes me nervous. May put in a better fan. So, just how hot have you run, without damage ?
I'm fairly certain that the breaking point is about 245-250* and thats when you risk serious overheating and headgasket failures. Cracking a head would be pretty extreme but can happen I suppose.

I would say that if you say below the boilng point of the coolant, you will be OK.
Owners manual says if it reaches 260 to pull over and shut it down. That's for my 1989 L98.
Thats a pretty good answer. I am an old fashioned guy and 230* seems hot to me. 200* is what I'd like. The car has a little more power than stock and horsepower tends to make heat. I am not all stressed about the situation, just wondering what temps should set off an alarm. I'd like to hear from guys that have run at 240* all day without problems. Or with problems ???

that's because 230 is hot.........unless of course you have an lt 1 (as we all know is "designed" for that temp)
I'm guessing you already looked at the obvious, fans, stat etc.

Yea, on the road or normal weather, the dash goes to about 194* and settles around 192*. I just think the motor is making a little more heat than stock. I have a killer fan in the garage just don't want to install it yet. Not telling what it is, but the devil uses one like it in his C4.

Didn't you put in a Miniram? I have read where the T stat won't open all the way on some of them. What solved my problem was turning on a fan earlier. But then I have 2 fans.

Yes, I got the Mini a year ago. The newer casting, no problems with the thermostat.
