DIGI DASH goes dim

DIGI DASH goes dim
WHen i first start up my 85 the digidash is nice and bright but after around 5 sec goes to pretty dim. Is this normal or is there a wire lose or something?
I would rather it stay bright all the time so it wioll be easier to read.
I was figuring it was to do with headlights but since its digital and not analog shouldnt it be brighter during the day not night?
