Window Regulator

Default Window Regulator

I finished installing a left window regulator into my '96. It went well but I found a few things that I didn't expect.

1. My door was covered in Dynamat material. I removed all of it and spent 5 hours cleaning all the rubber cement off of everything using lacquer thinner and paper towels.

2. I discovered why my window was scratched. There are two protective felts glued about the beltline. One of mine had become dislodged and I found it in the bottom of the door. I glued it back into place.

3. There is a door window guide attached to the front of the glass. This guide was used on 1993 thru 1996 Corvettes. Mine was missing. It had broken and I found pieces in the bottom of the door and other parts still attached to the glass. I had to EXPRESS $$$$ order one to put my car back together (it's a DD and I need the 6 speed milage).

4. The rod that the window guide uses was cocked a bit to the left. I loosened the attachment bolts and aligned it.

5. The NOS regulator ($100) I got from Corvette Salvage worked like a charm.

6. There is an attachment screw located under the lock slide. Mine was missing so I added it upon reassembly.

Now I have the new regulator and front window guide installed I'm wondering why I didn't do this maintenance earlier as I now have virtually no road noise.
