Default Brake question

1992 model - standard brakes

I am having a complete brake job done and I am having Hawk HPS pads installed. I always see where members post to replace a "pin" when installing new pads. What "pin" needs to be replaced and is this a dealership item or can I pick it up at a local parts store? Thanks for your help.

I have another question. Do you only replace the pins on the front or do you replace the hardware kit on the rears also? This is the rear hardware:

Thanks!

If the front caliper retaining pins are in good shape, thee is no real need to replace them. Also make sure the small C-clips are straight and fit over the pins. It should take some effor to slide the clip over the pin.

As for the rear bolts, the original bolts can be re-used if you clean the threads and apply new threadlocker. The OEM bolts have a threadlocker already applied. IF you clean the old bolts, then apply a coat of Loctite Blue threadlocker and torque to spec.

And outside of the threadlocker, there is nothing special about those bolts. They are a metric bolt grade 8.8 and can be found at places like Fastenal or even Home Depot or Lowe's. I keep a baggie of 6-8 of them in my tool box when I do track days.

The seals for the guide pins usually stay in pretty good condition and they can be reused if yours look OK. You should remove the guide pins from the caliper, check them for any burrs or worn areas, then clean everything and apply some fresh grease (use a grease made specifically for the guide pins. Any parts store will have it.
