My antenna is fried on my 1986 and i need a complete replacement. I have searched e-bay to find an original. If found is almost 200 bucks for new. A used one is probably as bad as what i have now. I bought a supposed to fit universal which does not even come close to fitting even with the assortment of frankenstein parts they give you. Does anyone know if a later antenna 88-96 will fit 86. The body did not change drastically thats why it is unconcievable why GM keeps changing basic parts. Just so us Vette owners keep getting raked over the coals i guess. Thanks in advance
Replaced mine with a universal (flush mount) power antenna from auto zone a few years back. You can cut and splice all the wires under the car if you want, shove them through the factory grommet, or drill another hole in the body and use the grommet provided. Remove the factory corvette antenna bezel. Bend the after market support to fit. It's all easy and costs $39. 2X that for the exact same thing at NAPA. When you're done, the difference in appearance will be a small decorative chrome nut that holds the antenna assembly from the top. The original antenna is held from the bottom vie that large plastic bezel you've already removed.
To keep the real corvette deal going, many will suggest going to the later model harrada antenna. Going to have issues finding brackets going that route too and will cost a lot more than $39.

Is it really "fried"? The reason I say that is the mast (last I knew) was replacable. Also I wouldn't give up on a used so easy, my '86 is still going strong (knock wood). I replaced the mast about ten years ago
Note to Self: turn off radio if driving at triple digits.
you could also do what I did and just cut the wire that gives it power to go up and down. My antenna stays up all the time but 5 seconds to cut the wire was alot easier and cheaper than any other alternative!
