Default water pump removal

okay i'm pulling my water pump and got down to the last bolt, do you have to take the pulley off in front of that bolt (drivers side middle one or little one) to get to it? or is it possible to work an extension threw there? It would be just one less thing to pull. I don't see anything about in my haynes manual. 95 lt1

thanks nick

I just turned the pulley until I could get the extension through there.

If you are talking about the power steering pulley, I don't think that you absolutely have to take it off. I can say that I did take mine off, there is a puller for it and with the puller, it is a 2 minute job to take it off, the puller is available at autozone for less than $30 and some have said that they loan the tool out. I had trouble getting to that bolt because the vacuum lines were in the way and I couldn't move them out of the way with the pulley in place. Removal of that pulley opens up that area a lot in case you also replace wires or the opti.

I use a Craftsman 1/4 inch drive socket here. They make one that includes a universal joint which shortens it enough that removing this stubborn bolt becomes that much easier. Make sure you replace a few of the other bolts too to take the strain off, as leaving this as the last bolt adds to the removal difficulty.

I just replaced mine last week. I used a "Wobble" extension with a shorter socket to get that one without removing the pulley.

If you don't know what a "Wobble" extension is (They are made to pivot 15 degrees) from straight. The are sold at Sears and all kinds of auto parts stores in sets with 3 to 9 pieces. I have had days when I could barely live without a set of these things.

It also helps to have sets of short, intermediate and deep well sockets and drive adapters.

Me too
Either a wooble ext or universal joint. You can get to it either thru the pully or from the lower left side as said above.

Ditto that, did mine about a month ago and used a wobble. Worked great.
