I have a 90 coupe and having some idling issues. while the car is cold it idles fine but as it warms up the idle gets alittle rough. while stopped at a light it seems to have a rhythmic surge the volt gauge drops and rises until you press the gas to take off and sometimes it hesitates on take off. Sometimes while cruising at highway speeds I can feel the same thing just not as pronounced. Every once and a while while cruising at highway speeds the Service Engine Soon light comes on for about 5 to 10 minutes and then goes off. I checcked for stored codes (using the paper clip method) itshows 32 and 45 can any one help me so I dont start throwing money into parts I possibly dont need. Any help will be much appreciated.
sounds like the egr valve is gummed up with carbon, 32 is egr 45 is o2 sensor rich condtion you might try a can of seafoam half in tank and the other half in a vacuum line so it gets into intake it will smoke when you start, but that will clear up. if that does not work prob. will have to replace egr valve and maybe o2 sensor
How old are the injectors? Are there any vacuum leaks? Do you have access to a scanner? What is the IAC count in neutral and with the AC off after it gets into closed loop?
I vote injectors, I just replaced mine in my 90, it was doing exactly the same thing your car was. It runs fantastic now. Bought Bosch III from FIC, you can't go wrong.
What are you getting average MPG.... I just installed a set of 1.6 roller tips and before I had the same issues. and was getting 22MPG even when I was taking it easy. Once I did the 1.6RT I then had to do a valve adj. and now I run VERY smooth and get 29-31MPG if I take it easy even with a 86E auto with a 3.07gear.
If you don't know how to do a valve adj just look up threads by me and it will have my other one. About idle issues.
