Default Should I get a road tune?

I have this posted in Scan and Tune section also.

I had a mail order chip burned by Fastchip. It ran OK.

Since then I have made a few more changes. I changed my gears from 2.73s to 3.07s. I changed my injectors. I had the Accel 24 lb. I switched to Trick Flow 24 lb. I installed March under drive pullys. I installed Comp Pro Magnum 1.6 roller tips rockers. I installed a Vigilante 2400 converter.

It still runs OK. I have talked to a guy about doing a road tune. He wants $495.00. I think that's a little expensive.

I can send my chip back to Fastchip and they will tweak it for $150.00.

I just ran a 13.9 in 90 F heat at about 97 MPH. The car will stall once in awhile but starts right up. The idle is at around 700 RPMs once it's warmed up.

I'm not sure if I should leave it as is or spend some more money on it.

That might be about right for a dyno tune..... When Tom did mine, I think it was in that range, but it was on a dyno and he burned and tested three chips. That chip has continued to perform as the mods were added. I don't know anything about the Fastchip, but I did have a Hypertech and that WAS A MISTAKE!

There is another post a few donw on this page and here is some information on that. It sounds good if you can data log and gather information. Price is right....and unlimited upgrades if I read this right.

New Chip: PCMFORLESS.com (Alvin) Great, check web site. About $200 for the unlimited chip replacement program. Get notebook and datalog software and send readings to Alvin to do the program, comes out alot better with data readings.
You can search and find all kinds of stuff on the datalog and software.

Didn't you change out part of your exhaust? Perhaps what we need to do is make a straight thru pipe to replace your cat when you go to Sacramento. We would have to cut out the cat and weld on flanges on the exhaust pipes and cat so you can bolt it on and off. TRACK USE ONLY GUYS.....

Aside...will try and get the pictures together for you this week.

I'll send you a PM about the exhaust.

The road tune works like this: The tuner rides with you with his laptop plugged in. He gathers all kinds of info under all kinds of conditions. He checks everything under the hood. He then burns a new chip.

When it's all done we take it for a test drive and check everything again.

The guy that does it has a C4 with a big block. He is well know in this area. He told me to plan to work with him for 8 hours.

The stalling but still running good is similar to what I experience. My computer was tuned by tpis, where almost all my aftermarket parts came from, but they didn't perfect the tune. My idle is a little lower than I'd like, and it gives me trouble when cold from time to time.

I've never heard of this "road tuning." Guess its basically like a dyno tune. I say go for it, should see good results with smoothness and power.

If you buy a scan tool you can gather data that a tuner will use plus you will have the scanner for later use next time you make changes or need to run diagnostics.

IMHO, this is the only way to get a perfect part-throttle portion of your tune. The WOT and idle are usually pretty easy.
