Default parking break issues

I searched and didnt get much that was clear enough for me.

Last night I went to release my parking break and after doing the same procedure I always do - pull back firmly, press button, release - the handle went to feeling like it had no tension on it at all and I was unable to get the parking break to disengage at that point.

I would really like to understand how the mechanism is supposed to work and why this could have happened. I have read that I may need to lube the system up, but where exactly and if that doesnt work, how can I disengage it?

thanks for the help

If I did know much I would tell to help a fellow vette owner. Plus, I can see you're pretty desperate if you're pimpin out photos (not that she isn't cute and good job if she's your girl )! That being said, when I took out my tranny for the rebuild the parking brake line runs parallel to the rockers and comes out around the rear jacking location on the driver’s side. It then connects to both wheels with a sort of wire and connectors reminiscent of a dog-tag metal beaded necklace thing connector. I don’t know much more than that, so I snapped a few pics – no big deal as my car’s still 2 feet in the air. I also scanned the relevant pages in my ’91 FSM.

I'm hosting them off-site on photobucket because I don't want to get in trouble for scanning the FSM. I'll take them off after you say you've gotten them. For the scans, I think you just click to make them larger and clearer....

Good luck and I hope someone can actually offer some more good suggestions - I don't even know if this information is relevant and if you can even jack your car up on a level surface to get to it,

Jonathan

Default parking brake

I have had issues with my parking/emergency brake on my 96. I have found it works great by using the following procedures.
When applying, always have the brake pedal depressed and then pull up and set the emergency brake.
To release, first start the car and apply the brake pedal, then release the emergency brake.

apparently the gear down there gets gunked up sometimes and needs to be lubricated

the issue I was particularly stuck with was that I was hesitant to jack it up because it was on a pretty good incline and didnt know if the stand or jack would be stable under there, not to mention that there would be nothing to stop the car from rolling if both rear wheel lost too much contact with the ground

However, after some WD-40 and a large screwdriver to unjam the gear, it realeased. Was then able to pull everything out - have to remove the chair to get to it - and clean everything up so this wont happen again soon. .... I think thats all, but for future referance, I was deffintily pulling too far back on the lever when aplying and releasing the brake.

oh and she is an x of mine, still good friends, that is a picture of her on my previous 89, she still owes me a new set of pics on the new one, so I will share those when I get them.
