Default finally running after 2 years but a problem...

Finally started my new 381cui engine after collecting parts for a couple of years I still remember carrying two suitcases to the NY airport with a crankshaft and 8 steel rods in one and a steel flywheel McLeod clutch in the other one
A short video of the first start:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7YV7HyPEWQ.
I´m not sure if I like the sound though, might replace the Flowmaster 40 deltaflows for something else.

The problem: I have an oil leak somewhere on the rear upper part of the block; drips on driver side headers collector/cat. I fear it´s the intake rear seal but I want to rule out the oil pressure sensor/switch before I battle the Superram. I´m going to get a plug and replace the whole piece that´s screwed into the top/rear of the engine block but couldn´t find the thread size-anyone?

Default oil leak

check the oil temp sender that sits over the oil filter

The top of the engine block close to the distributor base felt a little oily and it drips from a point located above the oil temp sender (and on the header collector) so this should rule out the temp sender.

Did you replace the seal for the distributor? I had a small oil leak in the rear of my engine, turned out mine was leaking pretty good. I also thought it was the sending unit.

Good luck, Randy

New distributor seal and non-hardening sealent on both sides. Also put some Loctite thread sealer on all threads of the oil pressure sensor and pressure switch and smeared some extra silicon on the outside of the rear intake seal. After running the car for approx 2-3 minutes, the oil started to drip (again). I will remove the distributor again, this time to plug the hole where the sensor goes into the block.

Think I´ve finally found the source of the oil leak. It looks like my Edelbrock Hi-Flow base is "too short". The intake´s rear sealing surface overlaps the block sealing surface with less than 2mm (0.1 inch) at the notch for the oil pressure sensor and there was very small amount of silicone at that point. Everywhere else (on the rear china wall), the sealing surface exceeds 5 mm´s. Left the intake to my welder to add some material to increase the sealing area.

Let´s hope this will fix the leak and it´s not the plug on the rear driver side engine deck that´s leaking (removal of the head necessary)....

Found some "Right Stuff" sealer to use on the intake ends.

Question; can I re-use my existing intake gaskets? They have only been run for about 30 minutes before I removed the intake. I need to use FelPro 1206 and they are a little difficult to find (and expensive) here.
